MARCH 2015

QTAZ Sundown does it again!
QTAZ Sundown won his class, junior male mid/dark fawn and then went on to win RESERVE CHAMPION JUNIOR and then won CHAMPION MID/DARK FAWN of the show

QTAZ Sundown won his class, junior male mid/dark fawn, and then went on to win CHAMPION MID/DARK FAWN of the show.

We have approximately 30 females to birth this season. Our birthing season runs from the end of March to the end of September.

Our females have been mated to:
Forestglen Seth
QTAZ Macho Man
Waratah Flats Rising Star
Homestead Farm Apollo

We are very excited to see what these matings will produce for us.

Halter training is underway for this years cria drop.

These two are Desiree (light fawn) and Sundown (mid fawn).

The Rotorua A&P Show was held on January 26 with Molly Gardner from Banks Peninsula judging the alpaca section. With Alan away Lyn and youngest son Bradley took control and headed off to Rotorua. The weather was lovely and what a great day we had!

QTAZ Mr Bojangles won his class and went on to win Reserve Champion Light Fawn Huacaya. QTAZ Living Doll was judged to be the Champion Mid/Dark Fawn Huacaya with QTAZ Footloose wining Champion Brown Huacaya and QTAZ Luka taking Reserve Champion Brown Huacaya.

The eventual Supreme Champion Huacaya was Brenor Point Blanc whose sire is QTAZ Noah. Congratulations to Brenda and Ivor Gainsford.

The day was rounded off nicely with a BBQ at "The Richards". Thank you for your great hospitality.

It is nice to have some time to relax and enjoy the Christmas break. The alpacas are doing well and their fleeces are coming along nicely. Roll on 2013.

Alan was working in Christchurch so Lyn and eldest son Ryan travelled to Feilding for the Manawatu Show. The judge was Paul Garland.

We were again pleased with our results. QTAZ Macho Man was awarded Reserve Champion Intermediate Male Huacaya and Champion Brown Huacaya.

October is always busy. Two shows and shearing in the space of 10 days!!

The Hawkes Bay Show was held on Friday October 19. Co-judges were Lyn Dickson from Australia and Diane Marks from Christchurch. Alan was ring steward so Lyn was in sole charge of the show team and is indebted to Ivor & Brenda Gainsford and Hermione & Sue Richards for helping out with the animals. The day was blustery and very cold. Our team of six did well, being awarded four 1st placings and two 2nd placings.

QTAZ Mr Bojangles went on to win Reserve Champion Light Fawn Huacaya and QTAZ Macho Man won Champion Brown Huacaya.

We rewarded ourselves with dinner at our favourite resturant on the way home. Dixe Browns in Taupo is a must stop.

No rest for the wicked! A sleep in on Saturday morning and then a few modifications to an existing shed were completed and we were set for shearing on Monday morning. Shearing with Mike Banks and his crew went smoothly with the fantastic support of family and friends.

Kate Mander was the judge for the Waikato Royal A&P Show held on October 27&28. The "team" did us proud, all receiving good placings.
QTAZ Macho Man went on to win Champion Intermediate Male Huacaya and Champion Brown Huacaya. He also won the NZ Alpacas Trophy for
Best Coloured Huacaya in Show.

We flew to Christchurch to attend the 2012 AANZ National Show which was held on September 21 to 23. The two fleeces we entered both won their class. It was a nice break away and it was good to catch up with the "Southerners".

Winter '12 was the wettest period that the area has seen for many years. Fencing and erecting yards has been a challenge. Mud, mud and more mud! Not ideal for alpaca farming.
Our hard work has paid off and we are pleased with the result. Our yards have been much admired by all our alpaca friends. Having good yards certainly makes life a lot easier.

MAY 2012

THE BIG MOVE!!! Our slice of paradise in the Kauraeranga Valley behind the town of Thames had become too small for our growing herd of alpaca so we decided to purchase 20 acres just north of Paeroa. On 10th of May we moved to Maratoto Road in Hikutaia. We soon reliased our main road position would be the talking point of the community and we were amused to see car loads of tourists stopping to take photos of our alpaca.
Now the work begins. Fencing, yard building, hay shed ...

APRIL 2012

The Auckland Easter Show is held over Easter weekend, April 5th to 7th. Kevin Burgesss from Christchurch was the judge.
As Alan was the convenor and was busy running around organising the show we only entered two males. QTAZ Rocket Man and QTAZ Leroy Brown both won their classes and QTAZ Rocket Man went on to win Champion Junior Male.

Two shows in one month! Julie Bird from Australia and Diane Marks from Christchurch co-judged the North Island Colourbration Show held in Hamilton the 28th of April. It was a great thrill that QTAZ Macho Man won Champion Brown Male Huacaya and then went on to win SUPREME CHAMPION BROWN HUACAYA.
MARCH 2012

Morrinsville A&P Show was held on March 2. The judge was Peter Kennedy from Australia.
Once again we had a fantastic day. All of our team were placed in their class with QTAZ Macho Man taking out Reserve Champion Junior Huacaya.
Morrinsville Show holds New Zealand bred classes. We were pleased that QTAZ Macho Man won Best NZ Bred Junior Huacaya and that QTAZ Summer Breeze was awarded Reserve Best NZ Bred Junior Huacaya. QTAZ Macho Man went on to win Overall Best NZ Bred Huacaya.

On February 18 we travelled to Pukekohe to attend the Franklin A&P Show. The judge was Paul Garland from Christchurch.
We are pleased with our results. QTAZ Summmer Breeze, QTAZ Rocket Man and QTAZ Macho Man all won their classes and QTAZ Macho Man went on to win Champion Junior Male and then SUPREME CHAMPION HUACAYA, thereby winning Best of Colour Brown Huacaya. This result was especially pleasing because QTAZ Maco Man followed in his father's footsteps as QTAZ Noah won Supreme Champion Huacaya there the previous year.

With October being warm the alpacas were glad to have their fleece shorn off. Thanks to Mike Banks and all of the helpers on the day. Time to skirt the fleeces in readiness for the 2012 shows.

The National Show was held at Baypark, Tauranga this year. With us both being on the organising committee and late births this year we didn't enter the breed section but did enter fleeeces. See show results for details including QTAZ April Sun taking Reserve Junior Female Fleece and QTAZ Raindrop winning Champion Brown Fleece as her mother did at the 2008 National Show.

QTAZ Noah had another great show this time at the Franklin A&P Show. 1st in class, Champion Senior, Best Mid/Dark Fawn and Supreme Champion Huacaya. This is Noah's fourth Supreme Championship. QTAZ Penny Lane and QTAZ Mustang Sally both won their respective classes and also won broad ribbons. See show results.

April Sun and Party Princess have been sold to Germany. Congratulations to Ilona and Uli Kindler. We wish you and the girls all the best.
Rotorua Show, what a day! In the breed section QTAZ Noah took Supreme Champion Huacaya for the second year in a row and also Champion Mid/Dark fawn for the third year in a row. We also entered QTAZ Penny Lane who won her class and Reserve Champion Mid/Dark Fawn and QTAZ Mustang Sally who won her class and also Champion Brown.
QTAZ Benetton took Supreme Champion Huacaya Fleece in the fleece tent!! See
show results for full details.

We are driving down to the National Show in Christchurch this year in convoy with breeders from Rotorua and Hawkes Bay. This should be a great adventure. We are taking Noah, Party Princess, April Sun and Benetton down.
What a great trip we had with great show results to go with it. QTAZ April Sun took Reserve Champion Junior Female.
Another great show at the Waikto A&P Show. April Sun took Champion Junior Female. Full results on our show results page.

The last of our "Seth" cria for this year has arrived. Prima Donna gave birth to a light fawn girl we have named Donnatella.

MAY 2009

Our second "Seth" cria has arrived. Raindrop, from Jacquelyn,  was delivered with our assistance at 9.30 pm on a windy, wet night, hence the name Raindrop. She is a beautiful mid brown.

MARCH 2008

Great excitement at QTAZ Alpacas and Waratah Flats Alpacas as Forestglen Seth's second fleece took the top award of Supreme Champion Huacaya Fleece at the International Fleece Show, held in conjunction with the World Alpaca Conference, in Sydney Australia.

Alan, along with Paul Garland of Waratah Flats Alpacas in Christchurch, travelled to Australia to look at a dark fawn male (Forestglen Seth) whose first fleece was awarded Supreme Huacaya Fleece at the Sydney Royal Show 2007. Impressed by his fleece, his excellent conformation and presence the decision was made to buy this young male.
